16 Days of Activism

GBV (Gender -based violence) is violence directed against a person, because of that person's gender or violence that affects persons of a particular gender disproportionately and the main focus is on women and girls.

The global theme for this year's 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, which will run from 25 November to 10 December 2022, “UNITE! Activism to end violence against women and girls”.

Advocacy visit to the Ministry of Justice in Ilorin by Kwara CSOs on the Implementation of Child right law

Kwara CSOs on Friday, 14th October 2022 embarked on an advocacy visit to the Ministry of Justice which focus on the implementation of child right law and seeks to protect children from all forms of abuses, creating an enabling environment for the proper growth of children, which include: right to health, education, family life, play, recreation, adequate standard of living, protection from abuse and harm.

COMMEMORATION OF 2022 INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE GIRL CHILD


International day of the girl child themed "Our time is now -Our rights, Our future" chosen this year by UNCEF is  recognised on October 11 which focuses on empowering girls, amplifying their voices, recognising their rights and the unique challenges they face around the world. Also, it aims on creating awareness about the right a girl owns,  gives them the opportunity like everyone else, support and limit gender based challenges that little girls face around the world which include; child marriages, poor learning opportunities, violence and discrimination.

ADVOCACY VISIT TO ILOFFA, ON WOMEN PEACE AND SECURITY

As part of the measures to ensure women`s participation in important decision making to resolve conflict and secure peace in kwara state, OCDI embarked on an advocacy visit to traditional rulers in Ilofa, Oke-Ero local government Area of Kwara State.

During the visit, they advocated for the inclusion of women in peace and security committee in the community.The program is supported by Action-Aid Nigeria on her Women`s Voice and Leadership Nigeria project.

QUARTERLY MEETING

 OCDI with suport from Action-Aid Nigeria on her Women`s Voice and Leadership Nigeria Project, organised a quarterly meeting for State Action Plan ( SAP) on Women, Peace and Security UNSCR 1325,  at , Ministry of Women Affairs conference hall, with participants from the 16 LGAs in Kwara State.

TWO DAYS TRAINING FOR WPS DESK OFFICERS FROM 16 LGAs IN KWARA STATE, ON WOMEN, PEACE AND SECURITY

On 22nd of June 2022, OCDI organised a two days training for WPS desk officers from the 16 LGAs in kwara State, on Women, Peace and Security UNSCR 1325, at Ministry of Women Affairs conference hall on the 22nd and 23rd of June, 2022.

The program was organised to enlighten the WPS desk officers on Women, Peace and Security and also deliberate on how the State action plan on wps can be implemented across the local government. The desk officers were also exposed to the importance of case reporting and proper data management.

LAUNCHING OF KWARA STATE ACTION PLAN ON WOMEN, PEACE AND SECURITY UNSCR 1325

April 11th was a memorable day at OCDI, and Kwara State as a whole as her efforts towards the development of the State Action Plan (SAP) on Women, Peace and Security UNSCR 1325 yielded result as the document was launched. At the event the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Ministry of Women Affairs together with other state actors and dignitaries present committed to the implementation of the action plan after which an implementation committee for the Kwara SAP on Women, Peace and Security was inaugurated.

KWARA STATE ACTION PLAN DEVELOPMENT ON WOMEN, PEACE, AND SECURITY

As part of the steps towards the development of Kwara State Action Plan on women, peace and security, Olive Community Development Initiative held a two days meeting at Ministry of Women Affairs, where committee members and other stakeholders with the support of a consultant, developed the implementation framework for women, peace and security, towards peace building and conflict resolution in the state.
